Ethical Guidelines for Manuscripts of the Indonesian Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology  Science  (Obgynia)

Conflict of Interest

If an author or author's agency has a relationship, financial or otherwise, with an individual or organization that can independently influence the author's work, a conflict of interest may arise. Examples of potential conflicts of interest could include academic, personal, or political relationships; employment, consultancy, honorarium, share ownership and funding. While an author may not feel a conflict exists, disclosing relationships and interests that others may perceive as conflicts of interest provides a more transparent and thoughtful process. All authors for obgynia must disclose any conflicts of interest or potential conflicts of interest. Journals can publish these disclosures if they are deemed important to readers.

Approval of Action Statement

The patient has a right to privacy which cannot be violated without consent. Identifying information, including the patient's name, initials, or hospital number, should not be published in written descriptions, photographs and pedigrees unless the information is important for scientific purposes. The patient (or parent or guardian) gives written consent for the publication stated by the author in the article (authentic evidence will be asked for and requested if necessary). Authors must identify the Individuals providing writing assistance and disclose sources of funding for this assistance (if any). Where complete anonymity is difficult to achieve, informed consent must be obtained without doubt. For example, covering the eye in a patient's photograph is an inadequate protection of anonymity. If identifier characteristics are altered to protect anonymity (eg in genetic pedigrees) the author must provide assurance that the change does not undermine scientific significance and is of concern to the editor.

Human and Animal Rights

When reporting experiments on human subjects, the authors should indicate whether the procedures followed are in accordance with the ethical standards of the committee responsible for human experiments (institutional and national) and with the 1975 Declaration of Helsinki, as revised in 2000.If there is any doubt whether the research was carried out in accordance with The Declaration of Helsinki, the author should explain the reasons for the research approach why this was done, and show that the institutional review body explicitly approved the questionable aspects of the research. When reporting experiments on animals, authors should be asked to indicate whether institutional and national guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals have been followed properly.

Editorial Board

Publication decisions

The editor of a peer-reviewed Obgynia is responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published. The validation of the work in question and its importance to researchers and readers must always drive such decisions. The editor may be guided by the policies of the journal's editorial board and constrained by such legal requirements as shall then be in force regarding libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism. The editor may confer with other editors or reviewers in making this decision.

Fair play

An editor should evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

Confidentiality

The editor and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.

Disclosure and conflicts of interest

Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor's own research without the express written consent of the author.

Duties of Reviewers

Contribution to editorial decisions

Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and through the editorial communications with the author may also assist the author in improving the paper. Peer review is an essential component of formal scholarly communication, and lies at the heart of the scientific method.

Promptness

Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse himself from the review process.

Confidentiality

Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.

Standards of objectivity

Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

Acknowledgement of sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument had been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also call to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.

Disclosure and conflict of interest

Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in a reviewer’s own research without the express written consent of the author. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.
